A world-class dynamic and engaged ecosystem

The consortium constitutes an outstanding ecosystem, encompassing science, human and animal health, engineering, humanities and social sciences. Its members fall under the jurisdiction of five government departments: Higher Education, Research and Innovation; Ecological Transition; Economy, Finances and Recovery; Agriculture and Food; Solidarity and Health.

With more than 5,700 academics and 2,900 researchers and NRO staff across 170 research laboratories and hospitals, 4,900 administrative and technical staff, and 116,000 students (including 14,000 engineering students, 10% of the national total), the consortium is a major player in French higher education and research.
HCL is the largest regional employer. With over 6,000 beds, HCL, CLB and CHV form the second largest university hospital system in France not only by the number of beds but also by the number of clinical research grants, centers of reference for rare diseases and centers of excellence in oncology. IARC, the specialized WHO oncology agency is internationally renowned for its role in cancer epidemiology.
